Hazzan Harry A Trattner

 

Hazzan Harry A Trattner became Cantor of the Fire Island Synagogue in 1980, and over the years has trained many of the Fire Island Synagogue’s B’nai Mitzvah, and has officiated at weddings of numerous Fire Islanders.

Harry was born in New York City and has lived there all his life. He is a graduate in Music of the City College of New York and a graduate in Sacred Music with a Diploma of Hazzan from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and has received Certification as Hazzan from the Hebrew Union College in New York City. During his student years at the Seminary Harry was Associate Hazzan at The Park Avenue Synagogue in New York.

Harry began his career as a professional fund raiser in 1969 with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and has served in the capacities of Director of Development, Executive Director and Regional Director with such organizations as American Friends of The Hebrew University, the Lautenberg Center for Cancer Research at the Hebrew University, David Yellin Teachers College of Jerusalem, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design of Jerusalem, the National Foundation for Jewish Culture in New York, and Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in Manhattan. For almost the past twenty years Harry has been president of Harry A Trattner and Associates, Inc., a strategic planning and fund raising consulting firm specializing in synagogues, day schools, medical research and the arts. He is a frequent presenter on synagogue fund raising for the regional biennials of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, and the Union for Reform Judaism. He has also written articles on fund raising for the Union for Reform Judaism, and has written on the development of the Passover Haggadah for the Palm Beach Jewish World

He and his wife, Amira, live on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and on Wilmot in Ocean Beach. As of this date, September, 2007, they have five lively and beautiful young grandchildren.
